Yesterday, Jim Hagstrom and his wife Lynn visited the gallery from Wyoming. Jim brought new paintings that are breath taking. Always enjoyable seeing them and spend time together. We reminisced about fun times in Wyoming and Jim’s new style in paintings that is so exciting! We are proud to feature his work which has been for a number of years, since 2004. I promoted his fine art which was recognized by Cowboys and Indians and Western Horseman Magazines.

Jim Hagstrom:

His love for Wyoming is evident in the subject matter of his artwork.

Over the years his personal style has had variations but they have always demanded people’s attention.

His unique and nonrestrictive style in compositions is achieved with both the palette knife and brush.

Many of his inspirations come from his surroundings. These include his highly textured “Desert Scenes and Indian Ruins” from Arizona where he lived for a period of time in his life. He includes, “Rodeo, Wildlife, Native Americans and Landscape paintings”, which are so much a part of Wyoming.

Jim loves to venture out of his studio to investigate and capture the effects of sunlight and how different times of the day affect a subject. Wyoming is a perfect state to do this because of the beautiful, ever changing skies, mountains and high deserts. The changing light, cold and heat, blowing dirt, leaves and flying bugs all add to the emotion, energy and texture of his paintings.

Through the years his art has been shown in various galleries in Wyoming, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho and Virginia. He has received many awards at various art shows throughout his career.

Jim’s art has been featured in Cowboys and Indians Magazine, March, 2004. Western Horseman Magazine, April, 2004

Jim is an artist Wyoming. His love for the area is evident in the subject matter of his artwork.

Jerry McKellar received his DDS degree from the University of Washington in 1969 and then spent two years working in the army dental corps. Jerry practiced dentistry in a busy private practice until his retirement in October of 1994.
Throughout his dental career, he made beautiful jewelry for family and friends, and for a period of time did very finely detailed wildlife scratch drawings which were made into limited edition prints. In 1987 his first limited edition bronze, “Startled”, was cast and he unknowingly launched himself from a hobby into a new and exciting career!

Although his sculptures vary widely in style and subject matter, and range from miniature to monumental, strong composition, power, and movement are consistent throughout. His professional background as a dentist is reflected in the structural accuracy of the facial anatomy in his busts and figures. The human figures focus on an accurate depiction of the culture, ritual, or tribal affiliation. The McKellars spend many weeks each year traveling in different parts of the world doing photographic studies which inspire future work.

Randy Christensen grew up in the small Southern Colorado town of Manassa, home to several turquoise mines in Colorado. So it’s no wonder as to why at such an early age he took an interest in turquoise. While still in High School Randy decided to try his hand at cutting turquoise. He would buy rough Morenci Turquoise in Gallup, NM and then hone his skills at cutting the turquoise, after which he’d sell the pieces he had cut to various jewelers. However, it was not until the 90’s that Randy decided to become a silversmith. This began as a hobby while he maintained full-time employment with United Power. But eventually the orders began pouring in and what began as a “hobby” soon became a full-time job in itself just to keep with the orders.

The Villa Grove Turquoise Mine that Randy acquires most of his turquoise from is located in the North end of the San Luis Valley. Randy contacted the then owner George Musick in the early 80’sand they quickly became friends working the mind in the summer. They were only able to gather small nuggets, because they lacked the costly machinery needed to mine the high-grade vein.

Randy purchased the Mine in 2000 from Mr. Musick, whom passed away several years ago. Randy retired from work at United Power, and is focusing on his true passion in life jewelry. There has been no Villa Grove Turquoise on the market for 25 over years. The past two summers Randy has began mining the turquoise for his jewelry, and will be venturing to the mine this summer with the necessary equipment to mine the high- grade vein.
